Be healthy, eat your greens

Not a huge amount to blog about today as simply took a look around the resort of Costa Teguise, got our bearings, and watched the Swans!  I will provide a little more meat on those bones, but won't be the full carnivore experience.  I'd come back tomorrow if you want something a little more substantive.

Took a peek out the window at blue skies and palm trees across from our balcony, that being one of the reasons we came, mental health and well being.

Whilst a comfortable 22 degrees towards the middle of the day a little less comfortable for running in than anticipated as Chrissi and I were both to find out.  I looped south for the first part of my run so I could take a look out for the Barcelo resort where I am meeting my swimming coach tomorrow (don't ask, but spot the pool here ) and then cut back onto the boardwalk for a few miles along the cost into the main resort centre. The number of people seemed to increase on the route, passed a lovely looking cove and then into the main tourist part - so that means we are in a rather quieter suburb which very much suits us down to the ground.  Playa Bastien is its name, remember that if you like to be away from the hordes.

My turnaround point in the harbour allowed a quick view out to the Atalanic then it was back 'home' to have a couple of hours sport and lunch. The joys of being in / near a resort, even our quieter but, is the number of sports bars and restaurants, and with the Swans on telly back home, was an easy ask to get them to stick it on whilst we had a post run smoothie first half and zero alcohol beer second half. What have I become? This is unheard of!

Chrissi had noted a Greens cafe which I was happy to assume was vegetarian, but it just meant it was super healthy with fresh ingredients. A delicious prawn, goats cheeses, salad bricohe sarnie was just the ticket for early afternoon snackage.

feeding time, what are they?

Chrissi, the wild swimmer had also clocked that cove earlier on, so we took a walk down there for her to take a trip across the water, whilst I hid amongst the rocks with my book, watching some of the prehistoric wildlife gather, and I don't mean the people, but a flock of jurassic park type birds. My view of the people so far is either old and active or young and active in the main. Cyclists everywhere, in fact got chatting to a bit of a triathalete that confirmed what one of my pals had already told me, that some of the hills out here are worth a climb (we shall see if I get a pass for that)

A cafe overlooking the Atlantic for a cuppa at sunset then a final change / turnaround for a stroll into the nearby row of shops and restaurants to choose our food for the day.  Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Steak, Fish restaurants all looked at, but settled for an Indian tonight, Tandoori Spice. Had my one drink of the day, a cider, can I go a whole day on vacation without a drink? That would be an achievement in itself!  But went for the tandoori dried meat approach to the food, so that also felt like the healthier option. So a good start, if not breaking any records for health and fitness!

  1. "Blue skies and palm trees" - you'll be very glad to hear it continues to be dark, wet and dismal in South Wales - you obviously choose a perfect time to enjoy the winter heat of Lanzarote.

I thought this was something like a perfect day - warm, gently and with a nice mix of tasty food.

    Keep on enjoying yourselves.

  2. Swim coach. Are.you going to emulate Ross Edgley and swim round the island? Maybe on your next visit? Or maybe John's swim round Wild Cat Island is a more manageable first target!
