warm weather training camp / holiday (after the clouds cleared)

  I had been jokingly referring to this trip as a warm weather training camp in the middle of the UK winter, and there has been definite benefits to sweating and working out in the heat that I hope will add extra fitness in spring conditions back home. That all said, I was not too disappointed when I awoke to grey skies this morning and initial drop in temperatures to do a few miles. Chrissi the same, posting her longest run of the year en route to Half Marathon success in Berlin. Not having to rush out to 'school' was a bonus so I wound my way north on a familiar track but then wound off road and up to a hilly headland which I decided would make a good turnaround point for a 10K and also give me a minute to catch my breath and take some photos.  Comfortable run back, a cool down on some of the street side gym equipment, and then caught up with Chrissi. Sun, Camera, Action ...

  Very much had lift off on the activity front today, all started with a pre - arranged swimming lesson that actually was the original basis of the location of this trip. I had looked around last year for a coach who would be able to offer some swimming lessons to the absolute novice (me) which I could combine with a trip abroad. Flirted a bit with Thailand but settled on Lanzarote as a nearer and cheaper option, with a number of other trips in the offing for the year ahead. So alarm set and with a little bit of trepidation I set off for my first day at school, whatsapping my coach to assure him of my presence and to get the meet location confirmed (obvs the pool).  That might sound odd but we had already had a bit of rapport and miscommunication over the last few months. It peaked back in December when I got a message at work in Bristol from him telling me he was down at the pool waiting for me.
