pirates of teguise

Image
Just to note again I am only doing a social media share every couple of days so if you want to catch up on yesterdays active resort day then you can do so here   Up and at 'em for my last day at school, my pirate swagger quickly cut short as I seemed completely unable to put together all the things I'd been taught the last two days.  Problem is, I can just about work out one thing (breathing) only for 4 others to collapse (stroke, kick, stretch, relax).  So the walk was the second best part of my final day, a reminder why people like to move here, just a glorious start to the day. The best part of the day was finding out more about my coach  Kimbo - pirate captain - Juan Carlos, Olympian in 1980 and 1984, what on earth he made of my flailing around I do not know, but we had good banter, and utter respect for a guy who swam in USSR and LAX Olympics, and just a top all round fella.  How he didn't laugh at my inability to do the basics I do not know but he...

strava w@nkers, warm weather training

Image
It had to happen, but today was as much about strava and training in the heat than hitting the tourist spots. But it felt pretty worthwhile achievement.  Dropped our bikes off first thing, even recording that kilometre trip on strava to start the w@nkery has we meant to go on.  Living off apples, grapes and cheese for 'in flat' snacks at the moment, so the day broadly starts quite healthy. In terms of moving onto the run I was slightly edgy knowing I don't run well in the heat and also not wanting to spoil the holiday vibe. I did require some double figure distance though to maintain some fairly intense marathon training that has consumed me to date this year, and whilst this week will be a little lower on the long runs, I can't fall off a cliff completely.  (or at all literally come to think of it) The route I chose was the first part of our cycle yesterday, not overly inspiring, and nothing new, passing the wreck and not wanting to be one was the first goal of th...

Sun, Camera, Action ...

Very much had lift off on the activity front today, all started with a pre - arranged swimming lesson that actually was the original basis of the location of this trip. I had looked around last year for a coach who would be able to offer some swimming lessons to the absolute novice (me) which I could combine with a trip abroad. Flirted a bit with Thailand but settled on Lanzarote as a nearer and cheaper option, with a number of other trips in the offing for the year ahead. So alarm set and with a little bit of trepidation I set off for my first day at school, whatsapping my coach to assure him of my presence and to get the meet location confirmed (obvs the pool).  That might sound odd but we had already had a bit of rapport and miscommunication over the last few months. It peaked back in December when I got a message at work in Bristol from him telling me he was down at the pool waiting for me. Getting to Costa Teguise at such notice impossible, and he had booked December ra...
